What we believe.
The Presbyterian Reformed Church was formed in
1967 and is today made up of congregations in Queensland, New South Wales,
Victoria, South Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Fiji.
The Presbyterian Reformed Church believes
the Bible to be the inspired word of God and the only foundation for how we
are to serve God and live our lives as Christians. We believe in the Triune
God consisting of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the God who created and
controls the whole world according to his excellent purpose and plan. We
believe that salvation is only by faith in Christ Jesus, whose perfect life
and sacrificial death was sufficient to atone for sin in every person who
believes in him. We believe God's promise to offer eternal life in heaven
after death to all people who believe in the saving work of Christ Jesus and
the requirement of eternal judgement in hell after death for all who reject
Christ. We
uphold the "Westminster
Confession of Faith" as a faithful interpretation of the Word of God. We
believe that God is, and will always be, sovereign over the affairs of nations
and over the hearts of individuals, and that His Word (the Bible) is to be the
guide for our faith and practice in our daily living, that it has the answers
to today's needs.
What we believe directs all activities in
our Church. It is our desire to worship God with all our hearts and to study
His word and apply it to our lives without compromise.
Our church is governed in the Presbyterian
form, where a council of elected elders from each congregation meet
bi-annually to discuss and judge the denomination's beliefs and activities
in various areas. Through this form of organisation we seek to maintain the
Biblical integrity of the denomination.
As a denomination our activities include:
We are "reformed" because we believe
that the theology
commonly known as the Reformed Faith (or the Doctrines of Grace) is a faithful
understanding of Scripture. This can be summarised in the five points below:
|
Total Depravity |
All men are affected by sin in all parts of their
nature.
Rom 3:11 There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God. |
|
Unconditional Election |
As a sovereign God, He has chosen to save certain
sinners. This is His own choice and not based on anything that the
sinner can do. (Nevertheless all people are still responsible to repent
and believe the Gospel.)
John 15:16 "You did not choose Me, but
I chose you and appointed you …". |
|
Limited Atonement |
Christ's death atoned for the sins of those whom
God has elected to salvation.
John 10:15 "As the Father knows Me,
even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep."
|
|
Irresistible Grace |
When God's elect hear the Gospel, the Holy Spirit
will irresistibly make them willing and able to believe.
John 6:37 "All that the Father gives Me
will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast
out." |
|
Perseverance |
Those truly repenting of their sins and trusting in
Christ's atoning death will be always kept in the faith by the power of
God.
1 Pet 1:4,5 … to an inheritance
incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in
heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for
salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. |

Revival?
Many members of the Presbyterian Reformed Church
of Australia have covenanted or agreed to pray for a revival of true religion in
our own lives, in the community around us and in Australia. God has
granted this Biblical type of revival in other countries, e.g. England,
Scotland, Ireland, Korea.
Following is the covenant that, by God's Grace, we strive to
uphold:
Covenant
to Pray for Revival
We desire that the glory of God should cover the earth and that the church of
Christ should flourish. To this end we set our heart and soul (1 Chron. 22:19)
to build His church and to seek the Lord's blessing upon this work by praying
for revival - by which we understand:
1) a general spiritual awakening and greater genuine zeal among God's people
in His Church, locally and throughout the world, and
2) a widespread conviction in the hearts of sinners who do not know God, so
that they will earnestly want to seek Him and find Him.
But, being aware of our own weakness and the need for extraordinary prayer, we
solemnly covenant and promise, in dependence upon the Grace of God:
1) to maintain revival as a frequent and regular subject in private prayer;
and in particular on each Saturday evening (or the nearest possible time) in
family prayer, and
2) as circumstances allow, to join with the church to pray with one accord for revival
each month:
* quarterly, during the day on the 3rd Saturday in the months of February, May, August and
November in each year, and
* in the other months, on
the 1st Wednesday, at our regular mid-week meeting.
We do not make this promise to burden ourselves, in the sense that
in every
respect, constantly and without fail we must observe every one of these times,
whatever circumstances should be. But we promise to guard against negligence
and complacency, and we acknowledge our wholehearted determination to keep
this covenant as the Lord enables us.
